As Bobby explains in this 1-minute video, the “flop” test is a simple way to self-diagnose shoulder problems.
Flop Test For Shoulder Pain
Hey this is Bobby with Body Pros again. So we’re going to help self-diagnose a possible shoulder problem. We call this the Flop test. The good arm in this position will just flop right down, it will be very free and open. This one [the problem arm], will go back and it will stop where the pain is and it’s not just the pain stopping it, it’s actually a stiff joint. So what a good manual physical therapist will do is come to that side, stretch it out like this for 30 or 40 seconds, patient’s relaxed, then he’ll get him actually in [this] position, bring it back gently in the point where it’s a little stiff and painful, and he’ll just stretch it like that and what they’re doing is actually stretching the capsule, and the ultimate goal is for this one to flop down like that one and that can possibly relieve a lot of shoulder problems.
